Chanel Spring 2019 Ready to Wear

Chanel’s spring 2019 runway show was definitely unique. Models walked in the sand without shoes as waves came in and out in the background. The ambiance of the show is both laid back and fashion forward. Lagerfeld outdid himself with a mixture of 80″s tweed and athleisure. The tweed came in a variety of spring colors such as baby pink, light blue, medium blue, icey yellow, and white. Some outfits were paired with leggings, giving them a modern twist. I fell in love with the color pallet as it is perfect for this coming season. The models even walked with trendy straw hats, giving the audience a feel of the beach setting.

Top 2018 Makeup Trends

Makeup has been around since ancient Egyptian times. In the past, women would go through extremes to meet the times’ standard of beauty. They would use things such as ashes, mercury, and leeches. These days, however, makeup has become a form of self-expression. Women have embraced it as an art form. And at the same time, some women don’t even wear makeup. The 21st century has been an interesting year for makeup, with makeup getting more and more intricate. From thin brows, glossy lips and bright shadow, to fill in brows, matte lips, and shimmer shadow makeup trends have truly evolved.

Natural look Makeup

This look is absolutely gorgeous, its effortless-looking aesthetic is perfect for a day out and just heading to school. The look is completed with nude shadow and lips, mascara, color correcting concealer, foundation, and cream blush. The look became extremely popular in the 1990’s with Kate Moss and Gwenyth Paltrow but has been resurfacing over recent years.

Ruby Red Lipstick

It’s a classic and its not going anywhere. The ruby red is sure to catch anyone’s eye and is especially popular this fall 2018. It’s seen on the red carpet and the runways. The red is sure to go with most colors and pops vividly.

Pink Shadow

This look has been seen all over the runway. It can be subtle and it can be in your face. The pink is a timeless feminine color that goes perfectly with any color and lipstick. It can look natural and it can look glamorous. Keep it simple with just pink or add some reds and browns to really stand out. I love this look and hope it stays.

NYC Visual Merchandising Trends

Tory Burch (specialty luxury)

I went to the Tory Burch on Little West 12th street and was surprised to see a window display full of flowers and the color pink in the fall. The silhouettes were mainly dresses and as you can see the color was mainly pink. Although it was unexpected at first, I then realized that the brand Tory Burch is known for its feminine and classy styles and designs that suit the sophisticated woman. On the window, it says “Beauty, strength, and eternal optimism”. I loved this because it conveyed a powerful message to people walking by and the women that identify with this brand. Overall, the display was unconventional for the season but very fitting with the brand.

H&M (Specialty Mass)

H&M’s window display was quite different from Tory Burch’s. For starters, it was much simpler. There was no overall elaborate theme to it and nothing to display besides the clothes. I did like how the mannequins were set up in different positions and angels, both sitting and standing. The clothing was far more associated with fall than the clothing in the Tory Burch window display. The silhouettes included jackets and layers, pants, and long dresses. Despite the clear differences, the women’s window display did include a splash of the color pink and shades of red. All in all, the window display was very associated with the season and I was able to find one similarity between the luxury and mass stores.

Barney’s (Luxury Department)

Barney’s window display was simple and mainly contained accessories. I think the visual merchandisers put a lot of thought into what to display in a very straightforward and down to business kind of way. The shoes and bags on display all had one thing in common and that’s COLOR. Much like the Tory Burch window display, Barney’s did not go the expected route with fall colors, instead, the visual merchandisers decided to draw customers in with bright colors and elaborately detailed shoes. I realized that it might be that the mass stores play it safe for the fall and the luxury stores draw in their customers with splashes of brightness and surprises.

Macy’s (Mass Department)

Macy’s window display was very digital with video and bright lights. I noticed that Macy’s had elements similar to Tory Burch and H&M. It was similar to Tory Burch because of the inspirational message that was written on the window. Much like Tory Burch, “Remarkable You” is reminding the shoppers that they are unique, strong, and beautiful. On the other hand, much like the H&M window display, the clothing side of the Macy’s display had fall colors such as brown and red and had jacket silhouettes.

Fall 2018 Fashion Trends

All Patched up

patched denimbalenciagabloomingdalesjaden

After doing a bit of research on fashion snoops, doneger, and WGSN I pulled out my favorite fall fashion trend. To go with this year’s theme of engineered identity, patched denim was perfect. I’ve seen this trend creep up in recent seasons but now it has become all the rage reaching luxury brands like Balenciaga, fast fashion brands like Forever 21, and even upscale department stores like Bloomingdales. Patched denim is the perfect way to express the identity you want to convey. The addition of the patches represents individuality and creativity. I’m loving the message of uniqueness the patched denim conveys.

Oversized Layers

It’s official, we are no longer sacrificing warmth for fashion! I’m loving the layers for this season they look cute and keep us warm on these colder days. Balenciaga introduced this on the runways and it’s reaching the streets. Both men and women are enjoying the functionality of this trend.

Activism in Fashion

Fashion has always been a way to communicate messages into the world and with this political climate and the protests going on it’s no surprise that activism has reached the runway. With the #MeToo movement and new wave feminism, it’s becoming increasingly popular to express your passions and view in the streets. I love this trend and the opportunity for expression it gives us.

NYC Fashion Trends

Time to get WILD

Animal prints have been creeping up on the runways and on the streets. This trend, a reminiscence of the 1980’s, is becoming popular among the trendsetters of new york city. The trend isn’t a common one yet, you can see it on a few unique individuals on the streets. From a business point of view, identifying this trend is important for the fast fashion companies. Most trendsetters find these styles in thrift stores since its vintage, so finding it in forever 21 or Zara would spread the trend on to more people.

Made in Japan

I’ve noticed that denim has been starting to come in many different sizes. From skinny, to long and flared, to straight and cropped. I really like this denim trend but then I noticed the shirt which has anime influences and characters. Kelsey, (from the image above), is rocking denim from Japan and a top she ordered on Amazon. I found that this isn’t only a denim trend but a cultural trend. Because fashion pulls from other cultures and history I thought this was more of a Japanese influenced trend. This is important from a business perspective since companies may want to partner with Japanese brands to keep up with this emerging trend.

Kaleidoscope Dreams

image1 (1)

This trend mixes bright colors with dull colors. The pop of the purse and the shirt makes the outfit so much more unique than a simple day outfit. When asked to describe her style, Jada said, “Its a mix of things, I like colors but not too much. I’ve seen other people clash and it really popped out at me. I realized I like standing out”. More people are starting to class colors instead of sticking to matchy matchy finds. This trend is important from a business perspective since buyers can begin looking for a wider variety of colors and prints.

I have never gotten into fashion blogging in the past but I decided to have a little fun with the research. It took a while because I wanted to find bloggers I truly felt a connection to but I fell in love with Jean Wang. Jean Wang is a working professional who works in financial services in Boston, Massachusetts. She hasn’t turning blogging into her full time career like other famous bloggers, instead she juggles her job and in her down time blogs about styles, looks, and outfits that flatter the petite figure. She has inspirational pictures and guidelines for each season. I fell in love with her fall looks from last year especially.  She blogs about fashion, lifestyle, and travel and even includes links to where to buy the pieces she’s wearing which is super helpful. I love how she focuses on a mix of occasions such as professional settings, a night out with the girls, a stroll in the park, and date nights. She identifies with the struggle of trying not to look like a 12 year old which is incredibly relatable to me. All in all, she advises and empowers young petite women to get the wardrobe that compliments their features. Her outfits and tips have me feeling like Tyra Banks on the runway.

Sara’s blog is a bit more famous than Jean’s and she’s been in the blogging scene since 2008. She is a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blogger. I fell in love with her blog because of the effortless minimalist look she adores to convey. The main purpose of her blog is to provide inspiration for the minimalist gal with the ‘less is more’ philosophy. She shows timeless looks and natural makeup. In the site she also has links to where you can buy what she wears. And in 2016 she launched the UNDONE, an online spot for the minimalist look lover to shop. She has worked with global brands such as Estee Lauder, Jaguar, Dyson, Loreal, Uniqlo, Gucci, and Nike. The pictures above show my favorite looks of hers : the belt bag, polka dots and jeans, and the natural glowing makeup look.

The Daileigh

by Ashleigh Hutchinson

About

I really like the Daileigh because Ashleigh strives to give women the confidence to successfully put together their own personal style. Her blog has a lot of how to’s which are super helpful. Instead of giving inspiration, its more of a tips and tricks to finding your own personal style. Ashleigh began her blog while she had a 9 to 5 job. She would blog in her down time until 2014 when she made fashion blogging her full time career. She also hosts webinars for women in their 20’s through 70’s to create a better sense of style. I really like how dedicated she is to helping other women feel beautiful and unique with their own personal style. The site is easy to navigate and she also incuded fashion ebooks to improve style.
