NYC Fashion Trends

Time to get WILD

Animal prints have been creeping up on the runways and on the streets. This trend, a reminiscence of the 1980’s, is becoming popular among the trendsetters of new york city. The trend isn’t a common one yet, you can see it on a few unique individuals on the streets. From a business point of view, identifying this trend is important for the fast fashion companies. Most trendsetters find these styles in thrift stores since its vintage, so finding it in forever 21 or Zara would spread the trend on to more people.

Made in Japan

I’ve noticed that denim has been starting to come in many different sizes. From skinny, to long and flared, to straight and cropped. I really like this denim trend but then I noticed the shirt which has anime influences and characters. Kelsey, (from the image above), is rocking denim from Japan and a top she ordered on Amazon. I found that this isn’t only a denim trend but a cultural trend. Because fashion pulls from other cultures and history I thought this was more of a Japanese influenced trend. This is important from a business perspective since companies may want to partner with Japanese brands to keep up with this emerging trend.

Kaleidoscope Dreams

This trend mixes bright colors with dull colors. The pop of the purse and the shirt makes the outfit so much more unique than a simple day outfit. When asked to describe her style, Jada said, “Its a mix of things, I like colors but not too much. I’ve seen other people clash and it really popped out at me. I realized I like standing out”. More people are starting to class colors instead of sticking to matchy matchy finds. This trend is important from a business perspective since buyers can begin looking for a wider variety of colors and prints.
