Tory Burch (specialty luxury)
I went to the Tory Burch on Little West 12th street and was surprised to see a window display full of flowers and the color pink in the fall. The silhouettes were mainly dresses and as you can see the color was mainly pink. Although it was unexpected at first, I then realized that the brand Tory Burch is known for its feminine and classy styles and designs that suit the sophisticated woman. On the window, it says “Beauty, strength, and eternal optimism”. I loved this because it conveyed a powerful message to people walking by and the women that identify with this brand. Overall, the display was unconventional for the season but very fitting with the brand.
H&M (Specialty Mass)
H&M’s window display was quite different from Tory Burch’s. For starters, it was much simpler. There was no overall elaborate theme to it and nothing to display besides the clothes. I did like how the mannequins were set up in different positions and angels, both sitting and standing. The clothing was far more associated with fall than the clothing in the Tory Burch window display. The silhouettes included jackets and layers, pants, and long dresses. Despite the clear differences, the women’s window display did include a splash of the color pink and shades of red. All in all, the window display was very associated with the season and I was able to find one similarity between the luxury and mass stores.
Barney’s (Luxury Department)
Barney’s window display was simple and mainly contained accessories. I think the visual merchandisers put a lot of thought into what to display in a very straightforward and down to business kind of way. The shoes and bags on display all had one thing in common and that’s COLOR. Much like the Tory Burch window display, Barney’s did not go the expected route with fall colors, instead, the visual merchandisers decided to draw customers in with bright colors and elaborately detailed shoes. I realized that it might be that the mass stores play it safe for the fall and the luxury stores draw in their customers with splashes of brightness and surprises.
Macy’s (Mass Department)
Macy’s window display was very digital with video and bright lights. I noticed that Macy’s had elements similar to Tory Burch and H&M. It was similar to Tory Burch because of the inspirational message that was written on the window. Much like Tory Burch, “Remarkable You” is reminding the shoppers that they are unique, strong, and beautiful. On the other hand, much like the H&M window display, the clothing side of the Macy’s display had fall colors such as brown and red and had jacket silhouettes.
